The Chocolate Therapist

Andy and I continue our exploration of Historic Downtown Littleton. Sunday afternoon we visited The Chocolate Therapist located at 2560 W. Main St, Littleton, CO 80120. What caught our attention the week before was their sign outside and the part that said Chocolate and Wine, never mind the part about it also being a coffee shop and that they make their chocolate on-site… we saw chocolate + wine and we were on it!

The Chocolate Therapist is truly a unique Chocolate, wine and coffee shop. Inside  it is intimate and cozy with the combined aroma of sweet chocolate and fresh brewed coffee. All their chocolate is made on-site in small, handcrafted batches of chocolate bars, patties and meltaways. The latter is what is served with the wine which they market as chocolate and wine pairings. When we were there, they had a special on their boxes of chocolate, buy one and get one free. However, we were strong and stuck to our original mission of wine and chocolate tasting.

They call it a Chocolate flight, verses a wine flight because the tasting is all about the chocolate! You have four options for flights: five chocolates for $5.00, eight chocolates for $7.00, 12 chocolates for $10.00 or 15 chocolates for $12.00. Basically the more chocolates in your flight the better the deal cost wise. Andy and I went with the five chocolates and split them between us, much to Andy’s disappointment I might add. To identify your chocolate selection you are given a little card that a collection of dark chocolates on one side and milk chocolates on the other. With each piece of chocolate, they have a suggested wine pairing. Once you’ve picked which flight and identified the chocolates you want, they serve them to you on a petit glass plate. For the wine, you purchase a wine card you insert in their self-serve wine bar. They had four options for wine, we both went with the Cabernet Sauvignon because the chocolates we picked were specifically suggested to go with that specific wine.

The wine was okay, but the chocolate was amazing! Our chocolate flight included:

Peanut Butter (dark)

Black Cherry (dark)

Raspberry (dark)

Irish Coconut (dark)

Orange (milk chocolate) – originally, we had selected the Earl Grey (dark) but it was sold out

After completing our tasting, we compared notes and both agreed our favorite was the Irish Coconut! Once our tasting was finished, we polished off our wine and ventured back in to check out the rest of the shop and all the tasty treats they had to offer. I spied a section of chocolate toffee and vowed to return, perhaps next time trying out their coffee! All in all, it was a lovely afternoon and a wonderful, sweet find!
