Kate’s Wine Bar
We are officially in transition mode, we no longer live in Denver (however we are also not in Palisade, yet! Our ‘in between’ place is Littleton, Colorado. We are temporarily bunking with our daughters in their apartment which is close to Arapahoe Community College where they will both be attending this fall. Their place is little over 900 square feet two-bedroom apartment. It is an interesting living experiment especially since I’ve been envisioning my future Airbnb as a space between 700 – 900 square feet single bedroom cottage.
This past Friday was the first time since our move that Andy and I had a chance to get out and explore the area. Historic Downtown Littleton is within walking distance of the apartment. Our first adventure was to Kate’s Wine Bar, located at 5671 S. Nevada Street, Littleton. Kate’s is a cozy, comfortable neighborhood wine bar, which includes intimate seating with tables for two or four people nestled around the main bar area. We sat in a little nook along the side wall that had two other tables for two. Over the course of the evening, we had lovely conversations with the people sitting at both tables.
As we were looking over the wine menu at our table, the first thing that caught my eye was the menu on the black board at the far side of the bar, listed in big bold letters was Mesa Park! They had a Rose’ wine flight that included wine from Mesa Park Vineyards in Palisade. This was a good omen in my opinion which proved to be true when it came time for us to order and we conversed at length with our server (who may or may not have been the owner) about the wonderful attributes of Palisade Colorado, its wines, orchards, activities and lodging accommodations currently available. This was about the time I started my marketing, future client research and gathered information on where she was staying (turns out the following weekend she was going to Palisade with friends) etc… Andy and I gave her recommendations on what events they should check out. For example, Restoration hosts Saturday concerts on the green with food trucks (she had mentioned they were planning on hitting Restorations tasting room while there). I proceeded to tell her about my Airbnb plans and her response which is usually the case was “Sign me up!” Andy and I plan on returning to Kates’ often, preferably catching Happy Hour next time, so I will continue to develop this relationship with my potential future Airbnb guest!
Kate’s is open from 4-10 pm Tuesday through Thursday and 3-11 pm Friday and Saturday. Their Happy hour is from opening to 6 pm Tuesday through Friday and features “ever-changing” wines from around the world at only $6.00 a glass or $24.00 a bottle. Even after Happy hour their prices are reasonable. Andy tried the red wine flight which included a wine from Italy, Spain, and France. After the flight Andy ordered a glass of the Spanish Rioja and I had a glass of the French Bordeaux. We also ordered the Artichoke and Jalapeno Dip appetizer that was quite tasty and came with a selection of mini carrots, celery, pita triangles and crackers. You can find their menu which includes light appetizers, desserts, and a list of their wines both local (Palisade), Regional and International on their website https://www.kateswinebar.com.
Before we left, I took a picture of their blackboard that had Mesa Park listed and texted it to Laura Black of Laura and Brandon who are the owners of Mesa Park Vineyards (and also our Palisade realtor, well Laura is… Brandon has his hands full with growing grapes and making wine) with a note saying look what we found in Littleton Colorado! She responded back saying the owners of Kate’s were also wine club members (as are we) of Mesa Park Vineyards.
If you are looking to explore Historic Downtown Littleton, I recommend Kate’s Wine Bar, it has great ambiance, the staff are both knowledgeable and friendly and you can easily strike up a conversation with your neighbor and just have an all-around lovely time. If wine isn’t your thing, they also have a selection of beers and spirits for the non-wine lovers as well.
