Renovating the Main House: Phase One
I’ve decided to play it safe and only focus on one remodel project at a time, while the guest house is being built and we work to get the farm up and running. The rest of the house will just have to wait to be remodeled, as funds become available, we will tackle one room at a time, I’m thinking the library might be next on the list.

Parmesan and Thyme Crackers
This recipe comes from the Barefoot Contessa: Back to Basics cookbook by Ina Garten. The Barefoot Contessa is one of my favorite cooking shows and Ina Garten one of my favorite cookbook authors!

Creating a Vision Board: The Guest House
Now that we’ve secured our dream property in Palisade, Colorado, it’s time to turn my business plan into a reality, starting with the Guest House.

Harvesting Pecans
Growing up in Michigan, I have fond memories of going nut hunting as a child. I think this was one of the big reasons why I wanted to plant nut trees as part of the Boutique farm.

Apple Cinnamon Scones
Recently our neighbors invited us over to pick however many apples we wanted from their apple tree. So, Andy went over and gathered a basket full of apples. I’m not much of a baker but when you have fresh produce how can you not put on the apron and do some baking?

Building Compost Bins
Finally, after months of not creating anything, I was ready to build Compost Bins for the farm! This has been something I’ve been wanting to do for some time.

Weeds
Weeding on a farm is like nothing I’ve ever encountered before! When we purchased the property, the seller had let the weeds go on both the North and South sides of the property. By the time we moved in, they were so high on the North portion of the farm you could no longer see the Pole Barn!

Learning Landscape Design Part I
This past winter while I was ‘patiently’ waiting for our property to be subdivided, I decided I would teach myself landscape architecture with the goal of designing the farm and the landscape around the Guest House and Artist Retreat

Saturday Morning Breakfast
I recently enjoyed a lovely Saturday morning breakfast made by my husband. It was so tasty and beautifully presented, I thought I’d take a break from reporting on the farm and share this delightful recipe with you!

Demolition
Before I start creating the Boutique Farm, I need a clean canvas on which to work (to use a painting metaphor). This clean slate involves clearing a lot of weeds and demoing some very old and unsightly outbuildings!

A Temporary Greenhouse
Moving household objects over the mountain is one thing, trying to move plants is a completely different beasty! I was able to move my interior house plants on my own in my SUV. The exterior plants, especially the larger ones I needed help. My friend Laurie with her refrigerated truck came to my rescue!

Assessing the Damage and Making the Repairs
The last item off the truck was our antique Queen Anne style buffet table from 1910. It was one of the first antiques that Andy and I bought as a couple. As the movers were removing the blanket from it, I noticed that two of the legs were moving. The buffet has no moving parts, so I knew this was not a good sign.

Gathering and Unpacking
Previously, I’ve posted about the trials and tribulations of packing. Finally, after eight long months, I can blog about unpacking!

It Takes a Village
I am pleased to report we have closed on our dream property and have a home in Palisade! Palisade Posh is now located in Palisade, Colorado.

Throwing Candlesticks
I’m happy to report that after a year and a half of throwing on the wheel, I finally figured out how to throw a proper candlestick!

Making a Leaf Platter
My good friend Janet has made several leaf platters over the years in the ceramics classes we’ve taken together — but have never attempted one of my own, until now!

Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Today’s post is focusing on the concept of Resilience and how one (in this case me) can use it to handle adversity when it slaps you hard in the face!

Moving, Moving, Moving!
At this point in our relocation adventure, Andy and I have concurred we are never, EVER moving again. This will indeed be our forever home!

Purge Baby Purge!
I’ve never been a fan of having a ton of stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I like having nice things and I make a point of investing in quality items when I make a purchase. But… having chosen the career path that I did, I’ve learned to focus on quality over quantity.

Retire… Who Me?
Originally my plan was to retire from teaching when we moved to Palisade… but I ended up taking a job as an adjuct art professor at CMU!
