Studio Sale

This past weekend I took a break from business planning and packing to hold my first Studio Sale. The sale was the result of my purging and packing up (temporarily) the art studio. There is something very rewarding about doing a thorough spring cleaning of the studio, sorting out the old and not often used supplies, books and objects. I did also include some artwork, knowing that if it didn’t sell, I’d pack it up and return it to the studio inventory. I was hesitant about putting the artwork on sale but in the end, what did sell went to good people whom I know will enjoy and appreciate it!

It was a successful sale overall, what still life items didn’t sell I donated to Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design for the Foundation department’s still life closet to be used for class props. The art supplies that didn’t sell I either donated to my friend Kat Potter who is an elementary school art teacher or to the RMCAD printmaking department. The books that didn’t sell I ended up donating to Good Will. I have mixed feelings about that decision, especially when the volunteer started tossing them in the bin. The lack of care and respect for the books kind of hurt my heart! When I was purging and packing the books in our home library, we also donated some of them to Good Will but the other thing we did was set aside books we thought would be good candidates for the Lil Libraries you see around the neighborhood. That strategy of book donations felt much better – I will keep that in mind for next time.

In reflection, rather than waiting 20 years to have a studio sale, perhaps going forward this will be a yearly event, with the next one taking place in the future Palisade Posh Studio! I see it as potentially being a good marketing event as well as a way to keep the studio fresh and up to date!
