Logistics of Moving and Selling a House
The logistics of moving and selling a house are often overwhelming! Add Covid to the mix and your head could very well explode! I started the moving process back in mid-May after my show closed at Spark Gallery by moving my unsold artwork to a storage unit in Littleton, Colorado. We opted for this location as it would be close to the girl’s future apartment of which we will temporarily share with them. Andy and I will bunk with them until we purchase our property in Palisade.
The first room I packed up was the studio, that alone took two full weeks. Once that was complete, I moved onto the rest of the house, day in and day out has been a combination of purging, packing, and moving boxes to storage with little results to show for it. So last week after I met with our realtor to go over what renovations and maintenance we needed to do to the house, I decided to do a major push in the moving process. If I could make a visible dent in the packing, then I could start focusing on fixing up the house. We rented a larger U-Haul truck and for the whole weekend Andy, Mom and I moved as much as we could out of the house and into storage. Shortly thereafter, I contracted Covid!
Luckily it was mild. I’m not one to slow down even with a potentially deadly virus coursing through my body. While in quarantine I decided to work on lining up all the things that focus on fixing up the house including the following:
Schedule Air-Duc cleaning
Find and hire a Handy man (I lucked out because my handyman can and is completing the following tasks: power wash the house and exterior windows, caulk and paint the exterior walls and window trim, paint the front porch railings, fix interior drywall cracks, patch, and texturize walls as needed, hang mirrors and new chandeliers to name just a few)
Schedule carpet and hard wood floor cleaning
Schedule to put new floors in the basement studio and future 5th bedroom
Schedule a dumpster so we can do some serious purging of stuff
Schedule cleaners
Find and rent an apartment (we achieved that before I came down with Covid but signed the lease while I was under the weather)
Order furniture for the girl’s apartment (I’m giving them their bedroom set and a lot of kitchen items)
Schedule interior window cleaners
Schedule deep cleaning services
Schedule movers to move the heavy items we can move ourselves
I’ve been working on all this, while slowly continuing to pack, purge and touch up what I can in the house. I say slowly because despite my tenacious nature, Covid is slowing me down a bit. Still, illness aside we have a deadline of July 19th, so we have to continue to move forward. The plan is to have the house go live on the 25th of July with our first, and hopefully wildly successful open house on July 28th! I must admit, moving is not fun and once we land at our final destination in Palisade, I don’t ever want to move again!
